The University of Kent at Canterbury has just taken possession of a state of the art computer centre featuring a 200 square metre computer room and communications entrance facility. Pupils will benefit from excellent facilities and new equipment. The campus offers sensory therapy, a new sports hall, crèche and a café. This modern, inclusive school that integrates pupils with special needs, as well as being a resource available for the whole community required a flexible communica-tions system that would enhance services for each department across three floors. Dark and Taylor Ltd were contracted by Willmott Dixon (the main contractor) to supply and install the electrical, telecoms, data and wireless systems throughout the building. The project began in July 2007 and was completed in April 2008.

Chairman of Server City Doug Richardson commented, “The ongoing shake-up in the internet market has seen the birth of a new breed of hosting provider; able to provide advanced, modular dedicated hosting solutions to meet the needs of its customers. Server City is leading this new breed of hosting providers and can supply a complete solution for any e-business. To provide the highest standard of service we have recently invested in this new facility in Stratford. We have an experienced team that knows exactly what is needed. With the Connectix preterminated Category 6 product we can install 10 racks a day with one engineer, once the server cabinets are in place. That includes getting the cabinets into the Data Centre, fitting the basket tray and installing the structured cabling. The power is under floor and is a 10 minute job to plug in. That works out to 30 cabinets so far in 3 days, with the last phase due next week. This gives rack space for an additional 450 servers, nearly doubling the capacity at Broadway Stratford.
When the owner decided to refurbish the property last year it was clear to him that in order to keep his offer attractive on the market he had to add value to the service. He wanted to add a bit of a ‘Wow Factor’ but at the same time he didn’t want to spend a fortune on a property that is supposed to be making money for him. After getting recommendation from his main building contractor he invited Krystian Zajac, Director of It’s done! Smart Home in for a consultation. It’s done! is a London-based company specialising in Home Automation, Lighting Control and Structured Cabling Installations.
